Warriors Stampede Past Rhinos on Road
Club sets season-high for scoring in victory
The Nelson Warriors finished the road portion of the regular season with a dominant 125-66 victory at the Southern California Leadership University Rhinos on Monday afternoon. The 125 point burst broke the previous season-high of 123 set against Cal Maritime on December 23, while also marking the 11th time this season, and fourth consecutive, that the club broke the century mark in scoring. Nelson piggy-backed off an already strong first half, in which they dropped 59 points, by scoring as many points in the second half, 66, as they allowed for the game. "The guys never took the pedal off the metal," gushed head coach Kole Ebert. "As coaches, that's really all we can ask of our players. Play hard, every play. Never relent. Never stop pushing to find that next gear. If we want to go where we believe we can go this season, it is our desire that it going to propel us. If we want it more than our opponent, we are going to put ourselves in a really good position to win every single time the refs roll the ball out there."
Terrin Ross was the player of the game in the victory, shooting a white-hot 11-14 from the floor for 23 points. Moreover, he relentlessly chased every available board, grabbing down a game-high 11, while dishing out 4 assists to tie the team-lead with Larry Holmes. With two games remaining, Harley Upton continued his astounding streak of nailing at least one 3-point shot in every outing (23 straight), draining 3-8 for 19 points to go along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. Rob Jenkins was on fire from beyond the arc himself, hitting 5-11 for a team-high 24 points. Jenkins put together a well-rounded stat sheet as fans have grown to expect, grabbing 8 rebounds, while dishing out 2 assists, snagging 1 steal and blocking a shot. Zaveion Bineyard and Orlando Gonzales each scored 12 points to round out the starting rotation, with the former grabbing 7 rebounds and the latter dishing out 3 assists, while Holmes scored 15 points off the bench. Elliott Offner dropped 13 and Petar Lazic finished with 7 to round out all Warrior participants.
The Rhinos were led by Ryan Frazer's 31 points and Jordan Cabezas' 17, the two who combined for 72.7% of their team's scoring on the afternoon.
The Warriors finish up their regular season schedule on February 20, and 22, with home games against Stanton and Bethesda Universities.
