Nelson Warriors Introduce Chloe Johnson
New Women's Head Coach has deep connection to Arizona
Chloe Johnson has officially joined Nelson University as the new Head Coach of the Women's Basketball program. A former NCAA Division I point guard and international professional player, Johnson brings a high-level understanding of the game, strong leadership experience, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the women's basketball program at Nelson University. Being able to coach in the same state where I grew up and where basketball shaped so much of my life is incredibly meaningful to me. Our goal is to build this program the right way, brick by brick, with faith, discipline, and a commitment to developing young women into leaders on and off the court while competing at a championship level."
An Arizona native, Johnson's basketball foundation was built as a player at St. Mary's High School in Phoenix where she helped lead the program to three consecutive Arizona 5A State Championships from 2010–2013 and a National Championship during the 2011–2012 season.
Johnson went on to play NCAA Division I basketball at San Diego State University and Davidson College, earning multiple all-conference honors while ranking among the conference leaders in assists. Known as a true floor general, she was widely respected for her leadership, basketball IQ, defensive tenacity and ability to elevate the play of those around her.
Following her collegiate career, Johnson played professionally in the United Kingdom with the London Lions while also serving in basketball operations. Simultaneously, she earned her MBA in Sports Management from the University of East London.
Beyond basketball, Johnson has held leadership roles within global sports organizations including the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games and recruitment initiatives connected to the Paris 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Games. Her experience building and identifying elite talent at the international level has helped shape her approach to leadership, program development, and recruiting.
Most recently, Johnson has coached and trained athletes throughout Arizona, including serving as Associate Head Coach at Phoenix Christian High School where she led practice planning, opponent scouting, and player development for both the boys and girls varsity programs.
A woman of faith and lifelong competitor, Johnson's coaching philosophy centers on servant leadership, discipline, and basketball intelligence. Her vision for the Nelson program is to build a culture where student-athletes grow spiritually, academically, and athletically while competing at a championship level.
Being able to return to coaching in the same state where her basketball journey began makes this opportunity especially meaningful.
