Lancers build Mount too tall for Warriors to Climb
Tatiana Ayala led Warriors in scoring helping keep the contest close
The Nelson Lady Warriors' Women's Basketball team (1-12) suffered a tough 80-42 home loss to Mount Marty, falling into an early hole that proved too deep to escape despite a stout defensive effort that grew stronger as the game progressed.
The Lancers set the tone immediately, jumping out to a commanding 28-10 lead after the first quarter and quickly putting Nelson on their back foot. The Lady Warriors responded with resolve on the defensive end, tightening the screws to hold Mount Marty to 21 points in each of the second and third quarters, before the fourth, where Nelson's defense shone brightest, limiting the Lancers to just 10 points on just 3-14 shooting. Offensively, however, the Warriors managed only six points in the final frame, although in part as they themselves fighting fatigue, having battled so hard to keep themselves in the game.
Tatiana Ayala provided a bright spot off the bench, leading Nelson with 12 points and adding a team-second-best six rebounds in an energetic all-around performance. Emma Koker anchored the interior with a game-high eight rebounds to go along with four points, giving the Lady Warriors a presence on the glass despite the lopsided final score.
After Christmas break, the lady Warriors will hit the court with back-to-back games at Pacific Union on December 29, and 30.
Merry Christmas, and God Bless You and Yours!
