Nelson Wins First Game of the Season
Maci Chavez records Triple-Double in Victory
The Nelson Warriors women's basketball team recorded the team's first victory on the season in impressive fashion with an 85-66 victory at Navajo Tech University. Although it was a total team effort with six players scoring in double-figures, the star of the night was junior Maci Chavez, who recorded her first-career triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. "I could not be more proud of how our team played today," said coach Glen Odonal, who notched his first victory as interim head coach. "Through all the adversity, our ladies are starting to come together. Still a few games before we are whole, however, out new Warrior identity is becoming clear. Improved ball movement leading to more open looks for all players which led us to our season-high in scoring and a well deserved road win."
Nya Misi Havatone led the team in scoring with 15 points while grabbing an additional 4 rebounds. Unique Begishe played a stellar all-around game finishing with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Tatyana Ayala blocked 3 shots herseld, while pouring in 14 points and snagging 5 rebounds. Angelica Tewksbury and Makayla Powell added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
