Warriors Softball End Season at Firestorm
Drop double-header but fight like Warriors
The Nelson Lady Warriors softball team (18-29) wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader loss on the road at Arizona Christian, falling 5-1 in both Game 1 and Game 2 at ACU Softball Field in Glendale, AZ.
Game 1: Arizona Christian 5, Nelson 1
The Firestorm jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, extending it to 5-0 heading into the fifth. Nelson finally broke the shutout in the top of the fifth when Emily Quigg drove in the team's only run of the game. Kelly Katalbas came on in relief in the second inning and pitched well, allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned run while walking and striking out 1 each.
Game 2: Arizona Christian 5, Nelson 1
Arizona Christian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Warriors answered in the top of the second when Raelynn Villanueva stole second and the throw sailed into the outfield, allowing Morgan Bradford to score from third and tie the game at 1-1. Unfortunately, that would be Nelson's only run of the contest, and the Firestorm broke the tie with a run in the fourth and added three more in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead they would not relinquish. Araeya Cosay threw a complete game in the loss.
