Warriors Softball Loses to Hope
Royals sweep double-header
The Nelson Lady Warriors softball team (18-28) dropped both ends of a doubleheader on the road against the Hope International Royals, falling 9-1 in Game 1 (6 innings – run-rule) and 9-2 in Game 2.
Game 1: Hope International 9, Nelson 1 (6 innings)
The game stayed scoreless through three innings before Hope broke through with a six-run explosion in the top of the fourth. The Warriors responded with their lone run in the bottom of the inning when Stephany Aguirre doubled to left-center to score Estevannie Rojas. Hope added three more runs in the top of the sixth, and when Nelson failed to score in the bottom half, the run-rule was invoked, ending the game at 9-1.
Game 2: Hope International 9, Nelson 2 (7 innings)
Hope once again jumped out to an early lead, building a 4-0 advantage after 2.5 innings. Nelson got on the board in the bottom of the third when Vanessa Philpot walked with the bases loaded to score Isenya Silva. Hope added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to push the lead to 7-1. The Warriors scratched across one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice that plated Anais Valencia, but Hope answered with two runs in the top of the sixth to make it 9-2. Nelson could not mount a comeback in the final two innings, and the game ended 9-2.
