Warriors Drop Series-Finale at Ottawa
Spirit complete three-game sweep
The Nelson Warriors' baseball team (4-13) dropped the finale of a tough three-game series against the Ottawa Spirit on the road, falling 7-3 and completing a sweep by the hosts. Over the three contests, the Warriors were outscored 34-9, with the middle game ending 21-1 in Ottawa's favor.
In the series closer, Nelson struggled to generate consistent offense against the stingy Spirit pitching staff. The offense fared fairly well against the Spirit slingers, recording nine hits while walking three times and only striking out six times, they unfortunately could not do enough to overcome some miscues on their own end to salvage at least one game in the series. Jimmy Holloway was a bright spot at the plate, recording a game-high three hits to lead the Warriors, although he unfortunately never found home plate. Ethan Gustafson, Gerardo Paco, and Ralphie Felix each drove in one run to account for Nelson's scoring, just each in their own inning, never a part of a larger rally.
Starting pitcher Eli Arsenault took the loss but battled through a challenging outing, allowing only one earned run on five hits and five walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings. The bullpen kept the game from getting completely out of hand, but Ottawa capitalized when they could with timely hits and extra-base opportunities to pull away.
The sweep marks a difficult early stretch for the young Warriors squad, but the team now heads into a five-day break to rest, recover, and address areas of focus before returning home. Nelson will host Simpson University for a three-game set starting Friday before a double-header on Saturday at Cortez High School in Phoenix.
