Nathan Simmons Awarded NCCAA National Pitcher of the Week
Simmons is first recipient of the award in program-history
Nelson Warriors standout pitcher Nathan Simmons has been named the NCCAA National Pitcher of the Week, presented by Athletic Solutions! The award recognizes the top pitching performer across NCCAA Division I baseball for the most recent week of action.
In his latest start against Embry-Riddle on Saturday, February 7, Simmons delivered a masterful outing, throwing six strong innings while allowing just five hits and one unearned run. He issued only one walk and struck out nine batters, earning the win to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Through three starts this season, Simmons boasts an impressive 1.59 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. In 17 innings pitched, he has recorded 19 strikeouts for a 10.06 K/9 ratio, while surrendering only 14 hits, three earned runs, and four walks. His command and ability to miss bats have been key factors in the Warriors' two victories in his two starts.
The Nelson Warriors continue their season schedule with Benedictine (Mesa) on February 13, before a double-header rematch against Embry-Riddle on February 14.
